In The Line of the Ball, Beh Chun Chuan shares his journey of founding and building one of Malaysia's biggest healthcare companies from the ground up. Beh grew up in rural Bagan Serai, Malaysia, the youngest of seven siblings. Born to parents of Chinese heritage, Beh developed a keen interest in business, with the example of his fruit-selling family as a young boy. Being a Boy Scout had a huge impact on his childhood. His passion for the game of polo taught him about quick decision-making and teamwork. Beh established the BP Healthcare Group in 1981. He nurtured a service-first culture and expanded the business in the early 1990s. Later, he ventured into property development and scaled up his operations during the COVID-19 pandemic, supporting national infrastructure for the government.
As far as inspiring underdog success stories go, The Line of the Ball is up there with the very best this year. Beh Chun Chuan's memoir is a testament to the importance of resilience, perseverance, and determination in life. Beh always wanted to make something of his life as a young boy and would later go on to build a legacy that would last for generations to come. I liked how the author continued to instill business values in his children, values that he himself learned from his parents. He also made sure to give back to the community. This is a gem of a memoir for aspiring entrepreneurs and anyone else seeking to enter the healthcare business world. You will learn about the unexpected challenges that may come your way in healthcare, especially in joint partnerships. Beh has a personable writing style that made this memoir all the more enjoyable for me. This book will motivate you to chase your dreams. Highly recommended.
