In The Lines Between, Danielle M. Wong tells a suspenseful Hollywood story through Stevie Young, a personal assistant scraping by, and Lana Lim, a movie star, revealing the tricky, sometimes dark world behind fame. Stevie, weighed down by debt and desperation, lands a job with Lana and her husband, Dean, who are one of Hollywood’s most powerful celebrity couples. Stevie’s skill is staying unnoticed, but she has a troubling habit of secretly watching her employers and selling information to gossip sites. As Stevie gets comfortable in their mansion, a sudden accident puts Lana in the hospital, leaving spaces and secrets wide open. Stevie pieces together unsettling truths about fame by studying journals, watching carefully, and noticing what others miss—the hidden sacrifices, the façades, and the control people crave. With money woes on the rise and hidden truths piling up, the line between innocent curiosity and real danger begins to blur. How far will Stevie go?
The Lines Between by Danielle M. Wong is a psychological suspense novel, but its tension is intimate rather than explosive. Wong’s prose is smooth and balanced, moving between private thoughts and public façades without slowing down. Hollywood comes across less as glittery and more as a stage, where people are always acting, even off-camera. I liked how Stevie and Lana were shown side by side—one barely noticed and desperate, the other always in the spotlight but emotionally isolated. Both are shaped by a world where secrecy, appearances, and manipulation matter most, and the story makes it clear how much those pressures influence what they do and how they live each day. It raises fascinating questions about privacy, surveillance, and how easily a person's morals can be twisted when their survival is at stake. If you love psychological thrillers that explore power, identity, and the cost of being in the spotlight—or hiding from it—you’ll really enjoy this story.
