The Lost Princess by Lauren Kutney is a captivating YA fantasy that explores the perilous nature of love and the unstoppable power of destiny. Elena Markova grows up in an orphanage, without knowing her true identity. She believes she's just an ordinary girl—until a fateful night reveals she's the lost princess of Zurdonia, hidden away by her parents to save her life. Now, with her true identity exposed, Elena must use her wits as she moves through treacherous political schemes, deadly assassinations, and false friends, while fighting her growing attraction to Alexei Novak, her fiercely loyal security chief. As danger closes in, Elena must uncover the secrets of her past and embrace her destiny, risking everything for her country and love. In her world, trust is a precious commodity that is difficult to find. Can she embrace love, discover everything about her people, and accept her mission to free them?
Lauren Kutney creates a likable heroine in Elena. The premise hooked me; a girl growing up as an orphan, only to discover that she is a lost princess, is compelling enough to usher her into a world of emotional turmoil. I loved how the author captures her emotions, weaving her character's internal dialogue into and building an equally gripping psychological conflict. The author expertly handles the young princess's attraction to Alexei, creating suspense and building tension in the narrative. The prose is excellent and highly descriptive, with well-crafted dialogue that fuels the drama. The Lost Princess entertains with a strong narrative voice, superb storytelling, and expertly executed worldbuilding. I found myself racing through the pages of this enthralling YA fantasy.
