When the Moon Sleeps, Do You Think He Dreams? by David Klochko follows a child's curious thoughts about what the moon does after finishing his job for the night. As the sun rises, the moon settles in for some rest and slips into a dream filled with adventures across the solar system. His dream takes him from Mercury's crater-filled surface to the quiet glow of Venus, then past Earth and up Mars' steep mountain before being swept away by its strong winds. He glides past Jupiter's moons, races along Saturn's rings, shivers near chilly Uranus, and drifts through Neptune's bright blue skies. He even remembers Pluto before going back home again. The dream ends with a friendly wake-up call as the moon returns to the night sky, while the narrator settles into bed and feels safe under his gentle light.

When the Moon Sleeps, Do You Think He Dreams? by David Klochko stands out because it blends a gentle space adventure with clear, playful writing that's easy for young listeners to enjoy. The world-building keeps things light while still giving each planet a personality, which makes the moon's trip across the solar system feel fun. The steady rhythm of the prose keeps everything moving at a nice clip, while that soft, dreamlike tone gives the whole book a cozy, bedtime vibe. But what truly makes this story sing is Celina Josens' artwork. Her illustrations strike a nice balance of being vibrant yet deeply soothing. With a gentle colour palette and expressive characters, the pages are packed with tiny details that allow kids to follow the narrative visually, even if you aren't reading the words out loud to them. She gives each planet a look that totally fits its mood. Scenes like the Moon "skating" along Saturn's rings or just floating through Neptune's atmosphere add a lovely, playful energy. The brilliant use of colour and open space means every page is easy on the eyes and never feels too busy. This is a great book for young kids to explore on their own before they start reading. The warm, inviting tone and those standout illustrations make the 5-star rating feel absolutely deserved.
