The Mis-Adventure of Pepper & Salt by Liz Fahey introduces young readers to Pepper, a thoughtful little elephant who experiences emotions as colors, and his lively best friend, Salt, a gold-crested crane. Their day begins with curiosity when Pepper asks a playful question about Salt’s unusual name. What starts as a simple moment quickly becomes a distraction that leads the pair into tall grass, where the familiar path home disappears. Suddenly, the two friends must work together to solve a small but meaningful problem as they search for their way back. As Pepper and Salt move through the grassy landscape, they encounter a series of surprises that challenge their patience and cooperation. Pepper’s colorful way of understanding feelings helps guide their choices, while Salt’s quick thinking keeps them focused on finding a solution. The story gently shows how emotions, curiosity, and friendship shape children's responses to unexpected situations.
