The Misadventures of Cowhead: Cowhead's Big Move by Charlene Peterson is an adorable story with a good message for young readers. Cowhead is moving to a new place and she is sad that she is leaving her old house and friends behind. Her parents convince her that she will meet new friends soon and be happy in the new place too. The new house is beautiful and looks like a princess's castle. Cowhead's first meeting with Goose does not go off well. But soon she meets other friends who make her feel happy and comfortable. Her parents are happy that she has friends in the new place. Though Cowhead misses her old home and friends, she is happy in the new place with new friends. It's a story of acceptance and also parental support.
Children will love the book and it can be used for bedtime story-telling. It can also be used for read aloud sessions in classrooms and school libraries. The illustrations are lively and bright and they give life to the story, scenes and characters. Children also get to improve their vocabulary and learn about new animals through the story. I found the message in the book positive and the story conveys the concept beautifully, making children understand the importance of accepting themselves and adapting to change. The book also fleetingly covers the topic of bullying and it has something in it for all readers, which makes it an appealing and delightful book.
