I am a native Central New Yorker, where I earned degrees from Le Moyne College and Syracuse University, and where I worked for more than 25 years as a high school teacher in the city of Syracuse. When not writing or reading, you're likely to find me spending time with my school teacher wife, Colleen, or hiking the local trails with our dog, Sadie.
I come from a family of undersized hockey players, so tenacious people. I am fairly considered to be the black sheep of my family, but when your family name is as glowing as mine, you can wear the title shamelessly. I also come from a family of school teachers, so talkers. With age, I have tried to do more of my talking in written form, where my words are only of consequence to those who care enough to read them.
I have done many jobs in my life, from dirty, hard ones like loading tractor trailers for FedEx, to easy, lazy ones, like coaching tennis, and have a healthy respect for all work done well, or at least attempted to be. A career high school teacher and lifelong novel reader, I have written plenty, but fiction only recently. When I was young, I wanted to be a writer, which I think is why I never became one. Somewhere along the line my perspective changed, and that desire was replaced by the simple desire to write, which I do now with more pleasure than ever.

Goody begins a dangerous investigation into Darvish’s construction empire, tracking suspicious trucks and uncovering how undocumented workers are being hidden from the public eye. Assisted by a trusted retired deputy named Don, Goody has to risk everything to uncover a corporate tracking ledger before more innocent lives are lost. Can a lone investigator survive a war against a wealthy syndicate that controls both the streets and the docks?
Samuel Colabufo’s The Mitigator is an absorbing crime story that centers squarely on the personal dilemmas of its protagonist and the emotional price of keeping secrets. The setting feels very true to life, particularly in the ways it addresses actual employment laws and the hidden greed behind major corporate real estate. Goody is a complex guy whose inner monologues reveal a profound desire to save others. Watching him interact with his kind landlord, Will, gave me a comforting sense of loyalty and human connection while the stakes continued to climb. Colabufo writes with a clear, engaging hand that keeps the intricate steps of the smuggling ring and the setup of the docks easy to picture. If you love watching a mystery slowly build up the clues before throwing you straight into a wild, fast-paced finale, you are going to enjoy reading this intense crime thriller.
