The Mountain Between Us by Cindy Myers is the type of book that reminds me of chatting with old friends. It is warm, familiar and nonjudgmental. We meet Maggie Stevens, a woman who needs to give her man a second chance. We meet Olivia, a single mother who long ago put any trust for men on the back burner. And we meet Lucille, the ageing mother of Olivia who longs for another chance at love. Each and every one of these characters is so believable, you'll swear you know someone "just like them." And then, enter the men in their lives. Some are patient and kind and others are smooth manipulators who only want their way. As a reader, you'll get plenty of hints such that you will be cheering for the good guys and hoping that the not-so-nice fellows get their comeuppance!

I loved the easy feel of reading this book. It felt as if I was one of the community, participating in the heartbreak and the victories of the individual citizens. The community itself was portrayed as a wonderful place to live without it appearing to be some kind of unnatural wonderland. The Mountain Between Us is a "feel good" read for men and women alike. Cindy Myers has done such a wonderful job of character portrayal that some readers will be looking up Eureka, Colorado, wanting to relocate there! Light the fire - or sit on the beach - and just lay back and appreciate a simple story of love, life, and friendships.
