The opposing forces of good and evil appear in many forms, many places, and in many different worlds. The battle between good and evil is not unique to our world, nor is it unique to our time and place. It is an ongoing battle. Never in her wildest dreams did Jess expect to have to battle a powerful evil force. It was definitely on her mind when she went to live with her Grams after her mother died suddenly. Jess had no one else, except her aunt, uncle and cousin, and she really didn’t want to live with them. Jess loved Grams’ isolated house, near the woods where Jess felt so much at home. Little did she realize that her bonds with nature had to do with a life in another world, one beyond the cave behind the great waterfall in Grams’ woods, one that included an evil sorcerer who was trying to destroy everything around him in his bid to maintain full control of his world. But Jess had other ideas. After stumbling through the cave into the light of another dimension, she discovered a beautiful dimension with talking animals (or so she thought), and a vibrant living world that she wanted to protect with every ounce of her strength.

Jennifer Doss has written a powerful narrative about another world beyond our own, a world where evil threatens to dominate. It’s not so different from our world in many ways and, like C.S. Lewis’s books on the mythical world of Narnia and Lewis Carroll’s adventures in Wonderland with Alice, Jennifer’s novel, The Orphan Princess, takes the reader on an adventure full of marvellous creatures, both good and evil, talking animals, magical powers, shape shifters, evil sorcerers, demon wraiths, and more in an inventive story that will definitely appeal to readers of all ages. As Jess confronts her grief and seeks solace in the woods, a plot unravels that allows for adventure at every turn until, finally confronted with the dangerous evil sorcerer, Jess learns details about herself that she never dreamed possible. This is a powerful coming-of-age fantasy with all the makings of a great adventure.
