The Others by T. C. Weber follows Will Myers, a marine scientist investigating the suspicious drowning of Galen Álvarez, a teenager with aquatic adaptations. With the help of Galen’s sister Andréa, who belongs to the secretive underwater Mazi clan, they uncover that Galen’s death may have been a deliberate murder involving sabotaged oxygen tanks, but security footage has been erased. As Will immerses deeper into the Mazi world, he faces scrutiny from the clan’s Council of Elders while uncovering internal betrayals, political intrigue, and covert operations linked to global environmental and military conflicts. Andréa and Will are captured aboard a hostile submarine operated by rival Sea-Dwellers, including clan members implicated in Galen’s death. Together, they fight for survival, seeking truth and justice against factional power struggles, espionage, and secret agendas threatening both the Mazi clan, the wider oceanic ecosystem, and the world above the sea.

The Others by T. C. Weber is a unique and striking portrayal of a fractured world where mistrust runs deep between sea- and land-based civilizations. The writing is sharp and carries us forward at a clipping speed, guiding readers through spectacular underwater world-building and highly detailed scenes of politicking, technologies, and intimate alliances. Weber’s depiction of Will and Andreia’s evolving relationship is well done and unfurls organically, incorporating it in tune with the broader story so it feels earned. From bioluminescent tattoos to classified intelligence files, the book brings a futuristic setting to life with grounded precision. The introduction of PROJECT GORGON and SEASPUR raises urgent questions about power and survival, while the Karsk clan’s economic sabotage introduces a bold layer of subterfuge in an atmosphere that is thoroughly textured. Overall, this is a tightly plotted and immersive testament to Weber's skill as a writer, and I look forward to seeing what they deliver next. Very highly recommended.
