The Perfect Match: A Reindeer Falls Holiday Romance by M.E. Bakos follows Merry, who just settled into her new apartment with her dog Fido a couple of months ago. She’s talking to her Aunt Liz, who wants her to “find a real Mr. Right” this time after her marriage to Derrick didn’t work out. Her aunt pairs her with a series of potentials, from one who is suddenly allergic to animal fur to another who drives his mother’s pink Cadillac. Merry and her friend Kris are bamboozled by their boss, Benjamin, and after doing so much hard work for TREM, they both end up being dismissed. Meanwhile, the property manager of Merry’s apartment, Joel, always has a complaint from other tenants regarding her and Fido, but they seem to have secret chemistry. But in between the daily chaos and shuffle, will Merry finally find her Mr. Right?
I enjoyed reading this holiday romance. The Perfect Match had a good balance of humor and heartfelt moments that were also relatable. I also loved the dual perspectives between Merry and Joel. Character development was superb. Aunt Liz was blunt and humorous. She suggested Merry’s fertility was declining, even though she’s only twenty-six. Yet I found this to be a very real subject that many families go through in real life. Merry was quite the opposite of her aunt, although she had a great deal of respect for her. Joel came off as cranky, but how he truly felt about Merry gave him a soft side as well. M.E. Bakos has created a charming and delightful story. Readers who would appreciate it most are those who’ve read similar works like Scrooge Meets His Match by Sara Celi.
