J. Steven Lamperti delivers a compelling young adult fantasy with The Pirates of Meara. Along the northern coast of Liamec lies a small town called Meara. Known for its winding, dim alleys, it generally attracts twisted, dark-hearted people because Meara is a city ruled by pirate lords. Mouse has spent most of his life living on the streets and rooftops of Meara, keeping his special gift hidden. While escaping a pack of dock dogs, Mouse finds Fern on a ship, trussed and gagged. Mouse rescues Fern, who turns out to be the daughter of the Duke of Ardstead. When the pirate lord Blackbeard comes after them, everyone assumes he is after Fern for her bounty. But the truth is more sinister, because Mouse is part of something much, much bigger.
