This is a poem about Halloween night, how eerie it feels with the moon shinning bright, casting shadows. The stillness in the pumpkin patch, the cornstalks and scarecrow, but wait, did that scarecrow lurch in the moonlight? Can that really happen?
Another feeling is the chilly mist as it settles where the pumpkins are, and oh, are they shivering, and now are they dancing? And they are glowing in the darkness, I see two greenish eyes. What is going on out here tonight? Could it be Halloween night, or just a fright? Well, you need to read the book to find out!
Halloween is a favorite time of year for children; their imaginations soar about this frightful night, though knowing it’s all pretend. This is what I see in this cute Halloween story. Giving the reader an eerie feeling talking about things related to the season. Then in the end, helping them to realize it is just pretend. And I love the pictures throughout the book. The water color effect seems just right for the setting of the book. Graphics are a huge part in capturing a child’s attention, and a great addition to this story. This would be a fun story for any small child during the Halloween season, one to read, or to just spend time looking, enjoying the wonderful creations of this author and illustrator. I am not sure about the age level being nine to twelve though; it seems to me this story is more for the younger age children maybe six to eight, especially since the pictures play such a big part in the story.
