The Red Mist by Chad McCoskey centers on a man who gains the power of teleportation (or misting) after he survives a harrowing vehicular accident. He becomes a vigilante, dubbed the "Red Mist", and uses his newfound abilities to fight crime with the help of his friend, Paul. Over time, the Red Mist wrestles with his own emotional issues and various family challenges. He eventually crosses paths with a powerful crime family. Victoria De Luca, the granddaughter of a well-known crime kingpin, wants to hire him to work for her. Can she convince him that the De Luca family has turned over a new leaf and is on the path of redemption? Meanwhile, Dean Mermen, a devious engineer, offers to help the Red Mist's ailing niece. His "help" comes with risky attachments. In the end, can our hero defeat his enemies, confront his past, and uncover his higher calling?

Chad McCoskey's The Red Mist is an emotional, unvarnished, and down-to-earth tale that intertwines themes of grief and duty with a compelling superhero narrative. The author crafts a riveting, character-driven story overflowing with raw and highly personal stakes. The Red Mist's superpowers, although very intriguing, aren't the only dramatic element that will keep readers immersed in this tale. It is the realistic way the protagonist navigates his inner and external world, and how he responds to the many challenges he encounters, that make this novel a hard-hitting and unforgettable story. The overall setting is as captivating as the plot itself. McCoskey masterfully portrays the city in the book as an urban space overrun with chaotic and systemic decay, further pulling readers into the plot. If you're a fan of books like Daredevil: Born Again and Soon I Will Be Invincible, you'll enjoy the equally dark tone, complex storyline, and urban setting of The Red Mist.
