The Return of King Lillian by Suzie Plakson is a high-spirited, wonder-filled fairy tale that delivers a great story. Lillian is a vivacious redhead girl that is the rightful heir of a forgotten kingdom. Forgotten in the sense that she completely forgot about it. Because when she left it, she entered the Forest of Forgetfulness, which erased her memory of all that she had already lived. Taken under the wing of an old lady with magical powers, Lillian grows up to be a loquacious and kind-hearted, free-spirited woman. One day, she is made to see that she must face her destiny, even though she does not know what it is. So she leaves the forest and starts on a series of adventures that take her through different lands and into very interesting situations, meeting friends and foes, and leaving an everlasting impression everywhere. But will Lillian ever remember who she truly is? And if so, will she be able to rise to the challenge that her true identity poses, and fulfill her destiny?
Superbly written, Suzie Plakson’s The Return of King Lillian is a wonderful and beautiful tale that resonates deep within. Lillian is both an enchanted and enchanting protagonist, very easy to love. Through her eyes, we embark on a quest of self-discovery, wonder, love for others and self, forgiveness, courage, and many other uplifting emotions and realizations. With Lillian, we become aware that destiny is simply the path that all of us must walk. And like her, this is best done with a big smile on the face and a song in the heart, and the knowledge that a better day is always coming, no matter the challenges to be conquered. This story will surely speak to your soul… and oh, it will do it so eloquently, indeed!
The Return of King Lillian is narrated by the author herself. Plakson is a professional actress and her remarkable skills show in her recording. It is truly a joy to listen to the different voices that she gives to the numerous characters of her story. She provides them with a different accent too, some funny, some endearing, some soothing and some even terrifying. She narrates in a clear and understandable voice. Her pace is adequate, not too slow nor too rushed and always exciting. The audio also has some special sound effects. I particularly liked the one used for the voices of the Furies; they really seemed otherworldly. This is an excellent audio production by the author and the director.
