The Rise: Dystopia by David Towner is a captivating, action-packed dystopian thriller. The story unfolds on a spring evening. In Tokyo, a strange flood strands Haruki Sato and his colleagues in the office skyscraper. In Boulder, Colorado, rising waters force Gillian and Jackson Knight, with their Rideshare driver Andrea, to move to the mountains. The flooded port of Nassau, Bahamas, prevents two-thousand cruise ship passengers from vacating and orders it to return to Miami. But the flooded Miami ferry terminal refuses to accept the ship. Captain Spencer and his crew manage the crisis on the stranded ship. London, New York, and Sydney are flooded too. Everyone wonders what has caused this flood. An act of terror? An act of God? Will they survive?

The escalating crescendo of the flood crisis in The Rise: Dystopia by David Towner took my breath away and kept me turning pages. I liked the highly relatable motley crew of characters and Towner’s atmospheric portrayal of places, events, feelings, thoughts, and behaviors. The action-packed suspense made me feel like I was watching a film. But most of all, I liked this exhilarating thriller's thought-provoking and eye-opening aspect—it made me think about my actions if I were caught in this flood. I was also surprised by so many aspects of life that we take for granted without realizing their true value. I highly recommend this amazing dystopian novel to sci-fi, thriller, and adventure fans.
