In The Room at the End of the Hall by Susan McCormick, Dr. Michael Baker is a respected surgeon at Cascadia Medical Center and a strong contender for the coveted chairmanship. Michael’s ambitions are complicated by his mother, Margaret McGillicuddy, who struggles with alcoholism and frequently lands in the hospital. During one of her stays, Margaret shares a room with Chrissie Johnson, a patient recovering from a broken leg, until Chrissie suddenly dies from a fat embolism. Soon after, another patient, Mr. Reginald Stark, collapses just before discharge and is rushed to the ICU. Margaret, convinced that Chrissie's food was poisoned and that someone is trying to sabotage Michael, tries to raise the alarm. As events spiral, Michael loses the chairmanship to his rival, Katherine Pierce, and is forced to leave the hospital. Refusing to give up, Michael sets out to uncover the truth behind the mysterious incidents. Can Michael find the killer before someone else becomes a victim?

The Room at the End of the Hall by Susan McCormick is a gripping and intricately woven thriller that draws the reader in from the very first page. The action kicks off immediately and never lets up. It was a fast-paced read filled with twists and turns that kept me guessing at every turn. The suspense is relentless, keeping me on the edge of my seat and flipping pages late into the night. The writing style and vivid descriptions made it easy to immerse myself in Michael’s world as he raced to uncover the truth. I found myself completely absorbed in the story, unable to put the book down for fear of missing a crucial detail. The plot is smartly crafted and exceptionally well-written, holding my attention from start to finish. With all the right ingredients—suspense, mystery, emotional depth, and sharp storytelling—this book delivers a truly compelling read. I thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend it to anyone who loves a tightly plotted medical thriller.
