Author Biography

During the pandemic, my husband and I were isolated in Yuma, Arizona, located in the dry, dusty Sonoran Desert. I’d always hoped to retire in Port Townsend, Washington, next to the ocean with easy access to lush, mossy forests, but my husband’s happiness was my priority, and he’s a sun worshiper. He’d had a rough time health-wise, having survived a major stroke that left his right side paralyzed and made communication difficult. I’d already written a few drafts of The Silent Woodsman, which was inspired by a dream that combined two news stories from 2018. One concerned an illegal cabin found deep in the Olympic National Park and the other, a woman who wandered into the forest to scatter her husband’s ashes and got lost. Being in my characters’ world became the ultimate escape during these dark times. That’s why there are five books in the Olympic Peninsula series.
My life has been a wild ride. Before becoming a publisher and editor, I was a classical singer, an Equity actress, a coordinator at Newsweek magazine, a legal secretary, a voice teacher at Shoreline CC, a receptionist at a major recording studio, a cater-waiter with Glorious Foods, a restaurant hostess, a member of an opera quartet, and a coat-check girl at a fancy New York nightclub.
My undergraduate degree was in German Literature. I also have a Master of Music in Vocal Performance and a certificate in Technical Writing and Editing.

Having undergone vocal surgery to save his voice, country singer Joe Bob Blade decides he should recuperate in the mystically beautiful Hoh Rain Forest, where he meets his very own babe in the woods in the form of Ali. Mary Alice, or Ali, finds herself soaked to the bone on Joe’s doorstep after a sudden downpour. With nothing but a notepad to communicate with, the two build this undeniable connection with one another. Back in civilization their time spent together seems like a dream neither wants to forget. The Silent Woodsman: The Olympic Peninsula series Book 1 by Cat Treadgold is such a beautiful and heartbreaking story that embodies the meaning of right-person-wrong-time.

Cat Treadgold created a beautiful and intricately woven story with just the right amount of reality. Having gone through a similar situation to Joe, Treadgold has shared a very personal and vulnerable part of herself with this story. Although written in the third person, I loved that the story was told from both Joe’s and Ali’s perspectives. The Silent Woodsman is a slow-burn romance set in the late ’90s. The moderate pace at which it evolved gave me time to focus on the character development of both Joe and Ali. Treadgold didn’t just attach them at the hip after that first encounter; instead, she shows us that life goes on and if it’s meant to be it will happen. I know that this is a work of fiction, but the sense of reality and the obstacles they had to overcome are what made me love their story.

The Silent Woodsman (The Olympic Peninsula Series Book 1) by Cat Treadgold is a contemporary romance that would appeal most to a diverse audience of mature young adults and adults who enjoy romance stories and do not mind some explicit language and sexual situations. Popular country star Joe Bob Blade is currently in self-imposed exile in Hoh Rain Forest due to an order from his doctor not to make a sound. Joe’s life takes a surprising turn when a storm introduces him to the woman who may just steal his heart.

The Silent Woodsman by Cat Treadgold is a well-written romance with an attention-grabbing cover; I particularly liked the question on the cover, wondering if the two were soulmates or simply two ships passing in the night. I wanted to know how Joe and Ali first met, especially the twist with Joe not being allowed to speak and having to use the written word to communicate with Ali. This added a unique element to their story that set it apart from any other romance story. Ali quickly became my favorite character as I felt I could connect to her because we both had similar dispositions and personalities. I have to say I enjoyed the cabin part of the book the most and wanted the couple to reunite as soon as they separated. Overall, I found the book to be a great read, and it left me wishing I could start on book two immediately.

Mary Alice (Ali) receives news that her twin brother Liam has died in an explosion in Jerusalem, but she does not believe he is dead because his body was not found. She takes a trip to the Hoh Rain Forest as a final attempt to commune with his spirit. While in the forest, Ali seeks shelter during the rain and finds a secluded cabin. It is here that she discovers a handsome, mute woodsman. Ali learns that her host’s name is JJ, but he does not divulge any more relevant information about himself. The two strangers develop feelings for each other, and when they finally part ways, Ali realizes she cannot forget her chance encounter, and her feelings for JJ grow stronger. Ali does not know that her JJ is Joe Bob Blade, a famous musician recovering from vocal cord surgery and is now desperately searching for her. Will Ali and Joe ever meet again? The Silent Woodsman took me on an emotional roller coaster ride. The story is a classic tale of will they, won't they, and all the drama had me on the edge of my seat. Sibling rivalry, a self-absorbed diva, harassment, and a love for the arts, this book has all this and more. I was happy, high on love, frustrated, and shocked. Cat Treadgold wrote many twists and turns, giving the characters great backstories explaining their personalities and reasoning. Ali and Joe had undeniable chemistry, and their emotional connection was the driving force of this story. The side characters are also intriguing, and I hope to read about them in future installments. The story has a great plot and amazing characters. I recommend this book to all romance book lovers because this is a good read to add to your collection.
