The Sorry Seeds is a children’s picture book written by Tina Shepardson, featuring illustrations by Bong Hyun Shin. It follows Courtney, a young girl who steals apples from her neighbor, Ms. Smith. The delicious apples look tempting, and she takes some without permission. Unfortunately, Ms. Smith catches her in the act. Upset, Ms. Smith reports the incident to Courtney's parents, leaving Courtney feeling ashamed and remorseful. She starts to panic about returning to school since Ms. Smith is also her teacher. Courtney does not know how she is going to face Ms. Smith. How can she make amends and regain her teacher's trust? Join Courtney as she learns the importance of offering a sincere apology and the value of forgiveness.
The Sorry Seeds is a heartfelt story that teaches children the importance of apologizing when they make mistakes. It encourages them to see mistakes as opportunities for growth and emphasizes that genuine apologies can strengthen relationships, much like planting seeds that blossom into kindness and empathy. Courtney is a relatable character that many young readers will resonate with. Her overwhelming shame and disappointment after getting caught reflect the natural awareness of wrongdoing that we all possess. This book provides parents and caregivers with an opportunity to discuss these feelings, helping children understand the significance of recognizing their mistakes and learning from them. This promotes emotional awareness and guides children toward responsible behavior. I appreciate how the adults in the story share their own experiences of having made mistakes with Courtney, allowing her to realize that everyone makes mistakes. Tina Shepardson’s narration is entertaining and engaging, beautifully complemented by the colorful illustrations that bring the characters and story to life. Bong Hyun Shin's artwork is unique, filled with vibrant colors on each page that blend harmoniously together. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend sharing it with your children to help them recognize when they are in the wrong and learn how to ask for forgiveness.
