Perpetual competition is the driver of successful evolution throughout the ages. The urge to be the best is instilled from infancy and endures for life. Meet Cat and Dog. These two longtime foes agree on a real challenge in Liz Butler's Space Race to the moon. They face frightful dangers – encounters with an alien, clouds of dust, and a deadly black hole. They take turns saving each other until both spaceships land on the moon at the same time in a tie! Not at all what they originally expected. Once there, the old competitiveness starts up again, and they both race back to their spaceships to be the first to reach Earth!

Details of the return race are left to the imagination of the reader – leaving it open to many different versions in future readings. This is a welcome challenge to the reader or listener to create different scenarios with each reading. Liz Butler’s enthralling illustrations capture this exciting Space Race, stimulating a child’s inquiring mind about events that are unfolding. Good bedtime storytelling for the little ones, both innocent and exciting. It is also an enticing way to encourage imaginative creativity and stimulate discussion about many other possible endings. Great stuff – let's have more, please! A whole series of adventures could grow out of this story. Who knows where our intrepid pair may fancy going next to settle the feud between two old foes! A great book for sharing and reading together with a child.
