The Storyteller's Book (The Chronicles of Midway #1) by Kevin Fleming is the first installment in The Chronicles of Midway. Fourteen-year-old twins Nicholas and Melandra Wigg live a boring, mundane existence with their parents in Little Meesden, a tiny village where nothing ever happens. The twins read from an old book, discovering too late that it is ancient and powerful when they encounter a fearsome hooded creature. Late night disturbances start to occur, with loud, strange music and hooded figures dressed in monk-like garb watching them from outside their house. They embark on a journey to find the book, which had been stolen. They discover a hidden place called Midway, where they learn that their human existence pales in comparison to the oddities there. They encounter mysterious portals, dark sinister characters (that resemble angels to others), flying galleons, and other incredible sights that they would never have believed in previously.

The Storyteller's Book (The Chronicles of Midway #1) by Kevin Fleming is a well written and nicely flowing adventure from start to finish. Nicholas and Melandra are complex characters, each with their own individual flaws and strengths to draw from. They are aided throughout their journey by Aunt Enid and Lord Roth, excellent secondary characters in the tale. While the target audience is young adult, the story can be enjoyed by both younger avid readers as well as an older crowd. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and look forward to reading the rest of The Chronicles of Midway from Mr. Fleming.
