As I read The Summit Society by Lisa M Miller, I realized this was a book with a difference. Secret societies have always been of interest to most of us. Are they fellowships for good or for evil? Numerous accounts from history still pose unanswered questions. Tressa, a very relatable heroine, battles with her conscience as one challenge follows another. She has to decide if the society, demanding utter loyalty and secrecy, is something she can join and enjoy the rewards it offers, or if it will have a terrible effect on both her and her family. This book persuades the reader to examine their own levels of ambition and how far they may be prepared to go to reach fame and fortune. A very interesting read that keeps up the momentum from the first page to the last. The scene changes are smooth, and the characters are likable, even Tressa’s socialite mother and her pool boy husband. While Tressa and Mauri do not fit into the mainstream of college life, they have more in common than they realize. The challenges they face change them, but is it for the better? You will have to dive into this book to find out. A good story that I enjoyed.
