The Text by Julane Fisher is a YA thriller set in 2048, 25 years after a deadly pandemic. America is now thriving under STaR, the Department of Safety Threats and Reinforcement. They monitor everyone and even have their own social media app called Allico. Everything goes down when the power goes out, including mobile phones and health monitors. Rami Carlton is 16, a teenage computer whiz, competing against Finlay Drake, a tech genius, in what they thought was a harmless game to discover online identities. On the same day, Rami gets a text message saying she's being watched, her mom disappears and cannot be located. When Rami receives a threat, things heat up. If she talks to STaR officers, her brother will die. But Finlay is on her side, and he discovers a deep secret when he hacks the mobile provider. STaR is more than just a safety department, and Rami has become a target. Will she find her mom? Can Rami and Finlay bring STaR down? Or is her time up?
Wow! The Text by Julane Fisher isn't just a great thriller but also a frightening story that foretells a future that could be waiting for us, a future where technology rules the world. Be prepared for the journey of a lifetime. Fast, filled with action, and plenty of twists and turns, it's a journey you will never forget. The characters are amazingly well-developed, and you'll be on Rami and Finlay's side all through. You'll find them easy to relate to, as well. This is a non-stop ride on the world's fastest thrill ride, and it will have you on the edge of your seat right from the start. Don't forget to breathe when you finish reading this book because you'll be holding your breath all through. I love this kind of story; it may be fiction, but it does show us a potential world future, and a scary one. This is a great story and would make a fantastic movie, but only if it does the story justice.
