Wow! Just wow...how's that for a review? I almost feel I should just leave it at that, but it might not do The Travelling Man, the excellently creepy novel by author Matt Drabble, justice. On the surface, the small town in the desert where the story is set - Granton - seems pretty typical. Nothing really exciting seems to happen and the sheriff, Cassie Wheeler, keeps it running that way, much as her father did before her. But there is certainly more to this sleepy town than meets the eye, and when an enigmatic stranger shows up, a man named Gilbert Grange, with the seeming ability to give a person exactly what they desire, that's when the townspeople find out for certain that not every dream should be granted.

I loved The Travelling Man. Simply loved it. It had me hooked from the first page, and I read it straight to the end. Author Matt Drabble has written a creepy, horrifying and, at times, gory novel that was simply perfect for the horror genre. The scenes were deftly drawn, and at times I truly believe I felt what the characters were feeling. If that isn't the hallmark of a great author, than I don't know what is. Any reader who loves horror, gore, action and suspense should definitely read this book. This is the first book that I've read by author Matt Drabble, but as someone who loves the horror genre, it certainly will not be the last.
