The Treasure Keeper (Imaginary Tales of Tahiti) by Rai Chaze is the story of an islander named 'Treasure Keeper.' She was not always a Treasure Keeper but was chosen to be the Treasure Keeper due to circumstances. She gets an opportunity to admire a collection of Maohi clubs and spears which are locked in a vault in her uncle's house. Captivated by them, a desire to possess precious things grows in her heart. While swimming in the Vaihiria Lake, the island girl gets a heart-shaped pink quartz stone. In the course of the story, the girl finds out why she is called the Treasure Keeper. Will she be released from this spell and will she discover love and friendship again?
The story is original with exotic Tahiti as the backdrop. The illustrations are beautiful and exotic, and they breath life into the book. The glossary at the end of the book with meanings to the Tahitian words is useful. The party the Treasure Keeper throws for her friends where they could choose something from her collection forms the twist where the story line takes a different turn.
This book will appeal to kids because of its bright and colorful theme enhanced by the beautiful illustrations. The narration is simple and elegant. Teachers and parents can use it for read-aloud sessions in classrooms and libraries, and it makes a good bedtime story book, too. This imaginative tale will also help kids to channel their creative thoughts in a good way.
