"The Trojan Horse Conspiracy" by Dick Nelson is a thriller extraordinaire. Nelson begins this action adventure techno-thriller with a short discussion on the Trojan War. He informs his readers that the idea for the Trojan Horse came from the Chinese general Sun Tzu of 500BC. He continues by alluding to the plot of this book where the United States plays the part of Troy and the Communists play the part of the Greeks. I am reminded of a quote from a speech by Nikita Khrushchev which said, "America will fall without a shot being fired. It will fall from within." The Chinese are in bed with the Russians and plotting the takeover of the United States. The plan is to place their agents within the US political system thereby forcing changes in the attitude of the government. The conspirators were willing to bide their time. They knew that they must groom a candidate for President of the United States in order for their plan to be successful. “This individual must be selected and roomed from a young age to believe fervently in international Marxism and liberal causes and to believe that capitalism is evil.” When FBI agent, Brad Tilsdale, who was a former Navy SEAL, and his partner Jeff Billings discover the plot to bring the US down from the inside they consistently find hands tied by reticent administrators. Tilsdale and Billings make a formidable team determined to protect the United States.

Move over Tom Clancy, Dick Nelson is in town. Nelson not only offers readers an entertaining thriller but he made sure the characters are believable and likeable. The action is non-stop. By using actual events the author will have his readers mesmerized. On several occasions I had to remind myself that the story is not real. Fast action and a techno thriller, the book makes us ask for more.

"The Trojan Horse Conspiracy" by Dick Nelson is a thoroughly modern, hi-tech, political thriller, brilliantly thought-out and extremely exciting. Not to mention worrying. It all seems so plausible and features familiar famous politicians. Threats to national security make for compelling reading, even in fictional form. Brad Tilsdale, SEAL and FBI counter espionage agent, finds himself in charge of locating a mole in the bureau. And there’s more. The Russians and Chinese are working together to plant a very powerful Trojan Horse in the very centre of American government. Events begin to escalate out of control, with nuclear war between the world’s major powers a very real possibility. Brad has to work fast and accurately and at the highest level for democracy and humanity’s sake against a concerted and intelligent evil threat.

The action starts in the first sentence and keeps going all through the book. It is a breathlessly paced novel, impossible to put down. An interesting and unusual feature of the book is the inclusion of photos of places and political figures that are mentioned. This adds even more reality to what is already a credible scenario. Attention to detail and a meticulous yet easy-read writing style also contribute to the convincing nature of this novel. The characters are rounded and we are drawn irresistibly into their worlds. No cardboard cutouts here. The book ends with the words ‘The end - for now’, which is really good news. There is more to come from Dick Nelson!

According to ancient Greek mythology, the huge wooden Trojan horse with forty Greeks inside was allowed inside the gates of the city of Troy. These forty concealed men opened the gates of Troy for the Greek army to come in and conquer the city. In 1981, Chinese and Russian officials met in secret to discuss bringing down the United States government. They want a Trojan horse, an actual person, to infiltrate and subvert the American political system. Deterred by the superior missile submarines of the United States, they decide instead to create a United States President of the future who would believe in Marxism and liberal causes and young Husam Basi with a white American mother and Nigerian father becomes their candidate. However, there is a "mole" nicknamed "Cerberus", a spy for the Russians and the Chinese, high in the counter-intelligence sector of the United States government and Brad Tilsdale, once a Navy Seal, now in the FBI, is out to bring this spy's identity to light. Will the Russians and Chinese succeed with their years-long backing of Husam Basi and will they bring the United States to its knees?

"The Trojan Horse Conspiracy" by Dick Nelson will keep the attention of all readers. Its unexpected and well-developed twists and turns go through the past few decades of world history right up to the present times as enemies of the United States attempt without success to bring down the US government. Brad Tilsdale, aging but still top of his game, is a very clever main character who, with his associate Jeff Billings, goes after the bad guys and digs deeply to ferret out spies and counter spies. The dialogue in the story is convincing and the author's in-depth knowledge of post-World War II history is impressive. Clear black and white photographs help illustrate the story which fits in nicely with the current campaign for the Presidency. "The Trojan Horse Conspiracy" is a good read for the times in which we live.

Undeniably, the U.S. electorate is being deceived. Sleeper agents are already working in places of high authority within government, and are just waiting for the call to action, where they will claim victory over the enemy. "The Trojan Horse Conspiracy" by Dick Nelson is a superb read. This is a book filled with facts and fiction, all seamlessly woven into an enthralling story. A must read! The main story and plot is stunningly simple while also being incredibly complex. Sub-plots related to both the government and international security agencies keep the reader almost running to keep up with the action. Politicians as well as the world’s most powerful people play deadly games of cat-and-mouse to further their own goals to gain world domination.

Special Agent Brad Tilsdale knows it is dangerous work: combating federal crime and providing protection for a very important person such as the President of the United States is not easy but he has been in this work a long time; it is his life-blood. However, just when he figures he knows what is going on, the rules change and he is thrust in to a world of terrorism, treason and assassinations. What had he missed? Who or what was the missing link?

Dick Nelson has created a plausible and exciting political story that shines a light on the often illogical decisions made by those we elect into power. It is a mind-blowing situation that we should all hope does not ever become our reality. I loved this book right from the very beginning. It is an engrossing, fast-paced story with excellent character twists.
