The View of a Christian (10 biblical truths of God’s view, to take you from where you are into the abundant life) by Richard Sallis is a detailed and thorough exploration of how the Christian faith can transform our view of ourselves and so our entire lives. Divided into ten chapters, Sallis's book offers the reader an empathetic understanding of the limitations we can place on ourselves, because from an early age we absorb and believe the views others have of us. But our true selves are not the physical, nor the battles without, but rather our soul/spirit is part of God and created by God. Once we accept Christ, God’s view and plan for us and begin to live as His citizens, aligned with His Constitution for the world and ourselves, then we become free, who we really are, and can live fulfilled and happy lives. References and sources are included at the end of the book.

Richard Sallis has written an encouraging and enlightening book that will direct and support anyone seeking to free themselves from past or current limiting beliefs and low self-esteem. The View of a Christian uses sound biblical text and extracts to back up its arguments for discovering a new life and God’s plan for ourselves. This enables the reader to ponder further and consider his/her own experiences. I liked the very readable and accessible style and the inclusion of occasional personal information and "stories" – for example the account of the man with many hats (one for each person/situation in his life) and his inability to simply be himself, i.e. the soul God created.

I found this to be an understanding and compassionate book. It is an invitation for anyone who has felt downtrodden or excluded or worthless. It will show the reader interested in embracing the Christian faith how to leave old and inaccurate views of themselves behind and to live as God’s citizen and by His “Constitution”. The author’s “Pledge for Christians” is an excellent idea, making this not just an informative text book, but an inspiration for those seeking a new way of being and living.
