"The Way of Nacor: Tales of Eden" by Jeff Horton follows the Seekers children Rachel, Michael, Jessie, and Eli on an adventure to an alien land called Zantura. The children make friends with the natives (called Rephaim), and find out that the Relic of Nacor can get them back to Earth. So they set out to find it, with help from Rephaim who want to be rid of Sarin, a fallen being who has ruled Zantura by fear for as long as anyone can remember. There are many struggles on the road to the Relic, and Sarin isn’t one to give up power. But could the mysterious being known as Nacor be more than the myth the people of Zantura had lost faith in?
I enjoyed this book. The scenes in the cave are excellent. The Biblical themes have been incorporated very well without being preachy, which is great. Some of the Rephaim talked differently at first, and gradually shifted to match. This confused me a little. There were also places where I felt that readers should have been able to discover, on their own, the reason why characters felt a certain way, rather than having the author explain. Scenes throughout this book that involved the children caring for one another moved me to tears, nearly every time. The plot twists and turns after the Hall of Portals were very unexpected. Overall, a very entertaining and heart-felt read that spins worthwhile themes into a rich tapestry.
