Relationships can be complicated. Couples in the modern era are prone to all sorts of relationship problems. According to veteran couple therapist Jake Thiessen, working on "Tiny Shifts" can go a long way in ensuring healthy, long-lasting relationships between couples. Alongside illustrations by Robinson Smith, this book contains short essays where Thiessen offers "relationship truths" to help couples navigate the dynamics of their interactions. To find balance in a relationship, both parties must be free to express their wants and needs. Examine any unexpected situation with curiosity to discover its deeper meaning. Embrace relational paradoxes and have conversations to resolve any potential issues effectively. Be flexible instead of being fixated on certainty. Come to terms with yourself with the help of your partner, connect with others by realizing you're normal, and more.

Jake Thiessen draws on his decades of experience as a therapist to couples and distills that knowledge into this practical self-help guide for relationships. Tiny Shifts, to me, is an absolute must-read for anyone who feels like their relationship is in turbulent waters. In fact, I think even if you're currently in a stable and joyful relationship, this book will help you maintain and maybe even enhance the dynamic between you and your partner over time. What Thiessen provides here are keen insights and observations into the very nature of human behavior in relationships. The author insists that there is no magical formula to pursue a long-term relationship. Instead, couples must be willing to put their effort into the everyday small things and adapt to changing circumstances. I feel like this book will appeal to a lot of readers from diverse backgrounds. Highly recommended.
