The Weeping Degree is a poetic memoir by Kelly Watt. Inside, she shares her painful childhood experiences and the journey she had to undertake to recover and heal over time. From poems about pain and transformation to discovering her life trajectory in astrological charts, the book covers sweeping aspects of Kelly's life. Neglected as a child, she was abandoned by her mother and left in a foster home. There, she suffered deep-seated trauma from abuse by those close to the people who were supposed to take care of children like her. Once she escaped from the home, she continued to be affected by her past for years. Eventually, she found refuge in a monastery in Nepal, where she discovered her passion for astrology.

As far as tell-all memoirs go, The Weeping Degree: How Astrology Saved Me From Suicide pulls no punches. For me, Kelly Watt's story is truly a reminder of human resilience and hope against all odds. Despite her painful past, Kelly continued to search for ways to heal, and astrology was a big part of her healing journey. Her poetic narratives are unflinchingly raw and thoroughly immersive. There's something heartachingly beautiful about Kelly's poetic storytelling. One of the things that hit me the most was her struggle for years to put her abuser behind bars. Unfortunately, this is way too common in the case of victims even today. All in all, I think this is a very inspiring memoir that will perhaps help other abuse victims find closure in their own lives. Highly recommended.
