When we start Elodie Parkes’ The Winter Girl, we meet the winter girl, Lily, fresh from a painful breakup and new to the small town of Belvedere. Intending to take a break from men, from work, and from her old life, Lily was not expecting to meet a man like Starr “Ash” Forrester in her first week in town. But within moments of meeting her, blue-eyed Ash decides that their mutual attraction will make Lily his perfect winter girl. What exactly is a ‘winter girl’ you ask? Well, for Ash it is the perfect way to remain single with his heart intact and with the recent departure of his summer girl, he is in need of a winter girl. I just love the way Elodie Parkes makes the first several chapters a chase, leaving us wondering if and when Ash and Lily will stop mucking about and finally get to the good stuff!
When Ash and Lily finally get to the 'good stuff' my word is it good! Elodie Parkes is wonderful at crafting a sensually graphic but not vulgar sex scene. The intensity, the need, and the heat between them is enough to make you blush and wish it were you. When you first start The Winter Girl the first instinct is that Ash is despicable; I mean he has no clue how to act when a woman isn’t throwing herself at him, and pouts like a child. But as the story progresses, you see he is more afraid than his cocksure attitude belies. The Winter Girl this year has thrown Ash for a loop and he has no idea how to respond! This is a quick, fast-paced love story that touches the heart…and other places, deeply.
