The Worker Bees by Wanda Hernandez is a children's picture book that follows the lives of bees in a hive. One day, Big Bee seeks out new workers to help feed the family and perform extra duties. By noon, she has found bees willing to work for a reward by sunset. However, by early evening, she meets a small bee, who is reluctant to help because she does not feel like she is part of the family. As she watches the progress the other bees have made since noon, the small bee feels unworthy and believes she is not strong enough to achieve as much as they have. Big Bee encourages her, and with the hope of earning a reward, the small bee decides to work for the short time she has left. Ultimately, the small bee learns valuable lessons about teamwork, self-worth, and the importance of every individual's contribution.

The Worker Bees is an adaptation of the parable of the workers in the vineyard from the book of Matthew in the Bible. It conveys inspiring messages about hard work, community, and the value of effort over experience and size. The small bee represents many individuals who hesitate to participate due to self-doubt or the belief that they cannot make a difference. The story also teaches the power of transformation and redemption, as the small bee changes her perspective and becomes a valuable member of the hive. These lessons are essential for both children and adults, and Wanda Hernandez presents them in an engaging and relatable way. The book also has beautiful illustrations full of color, making it visually appealing. Overall, The Worker Bees is a delightful read, and I highly recommend sharing it with your child to instill the importance of teamwork, self-acceptance, and the value of contributing, regardless of size or perceived limitations.
