Independence, strength, courage, resilience, purpose – these are gifts we share with loved ones, old and young. In Devaunshi Mahadevia’s The World, For You, a mother shares her love for her child, beginning with the moment the child is born. The love is shared in the form of a letter, one that is honest and deeply from the heart. She shares how she wants to give the world to her child, but the world isn’t always what it’s meant to be. But her love is there regardless of the heartache and trauma they face, together and individually. It is a love that never falters, one that bears witness to all the good that motherly love can share. Even when life and the world become a whirlwind of unexpected happenings, a mother’s love is always there.
Devaunshi Mahadevia’s picture book, The World, For You, is a keepsake picture book about love, belonging, and becoming. Told in lyrical prose, using simple language so that young readers can easily follow along and improve their reading skills, this treasure of a book will speak volumes to those who share the gift of love with a child. The illustrations by Sumitra Lokras are subtle and entertaining, adding another dimension to the developing letter revelations. This is a great resource for young people and families to share what they mean to each other. There’s even a section at the end where parents can add their own cherished moments of love for their child. It is filled with hopes, dreams, and promises of all that is and all that might be. Beautifully told and presented.
