Three Little Gnomes and the One Bite Mystery (Volume 2) by Rhonda Paglia is a beautifully illustrated children’s book about three gnomes and their long wait for their favorite Droppin’ Time Stew. Every year the three gnomes, Dandy, Whisper and Sprinkle, await the harvest from Mr. Joe and his dog, Rolf. After Mr. Joe and Rolf choose the vegetables that they wish to eat for that season, the rest is left for the three gnomes to choose from, but this year it was different. As the three gnomes approached the field to choose what they wanted this year to make their Droppin’ Time Stew, they discovered a lot of 'one bites' lying around throughout the garden. Upon further investigation they found the culprit, Nibbles McGibbles, and the journey begins.
I found Three Little Gnomes and the One Bite Mystery to be an entertaining story that I know children will love, especially due to the colorful illustrations that set the scene. Rhonda introduced her family's Scottish roots to establish the character of McGibbles, and that gave the story a different flow. I also like how she turned the book into an educational tool by providing the reader with terms, history, and information about Scotland. An added touch that I enjoyed was the recipe for Droppin’ Time Stew which not only consists of vegetables, but apples as well. Three Little Gnomes and the One Bite Mystery (Volume 2) by Rhonda Paglia, illustrated by Ratna Kusuma Hallim, would be a great book for children of all ages, so get your copy today.
