A solar storm wreaks havoc across the world, and a family caught hundreds of miles apart from each other struggles to survive and reunite in the exciting young adult adventure novel, Through the Storm (The Solar Storms Saga Book 1) by Kyle Pratt. A widowed father, Neal Evans, is at a conference in Nevada when he hears about an imminent solar storm headed for earth. He has left his two teenage sons, Drake and Conner, to care for their farm in Washington in his absence. Concerned the massive flare may cause magnetic disturbances that could affect travel, Neal packs up his things and leaves early. Meanwhile, unaware that a global disaster is racing towards them, fifteen-year-old Drake convinces his older brother, Conner, he is quite capable of taking care of himself. Confident that Drake can handle things at home by himself for a day or two, Conner drives two hundred and fifty miles to one of his favorite hunting spots. The following morning, Neal and Conner find themselves stranded hundreds of miles from home, with no means of communication or transportation. What is happening to Drake and their small community? With gangs and marauders between them and Drake, will Neal and Conner be able to make it home?

Through the Storm (The Solar Storms Saga Book 1) by Kyle Pratt is a thrilling, action-packed adventure. This superb novel has a gripping plot and outstanding characters. The onset of the storm sets off frightening events that are so realistic; the book is hard to put down. With all the changes our world is experiencing right now, this gripping story captured me from the start. To be caught so many miles away from family members during a global disaster is a nightmare scenario. The hardships related to such a dramatic, life-altering catastrophe are well portrayed and the characters really come to life as they utilize their skills and prove their mettle. The plot unfolds in a frighteningly realistic way, which had me rethinking my own personal preparedness. It is a sensational novel filled with perils and acts of heroism, and is the first in what promises to be a stellar series. I recommend this phenomenal adventure to young adults and older readers who love cataclysmic novels with everyday heroes.
