When I read poetry, there’s always something that stands out above all else. Even poetry about romance and love has some element of surprise that captures my soul and my imagination. I am always fascinated with how poets use or describe eyes. The eyes are metaphors of so many things. It’s interesting to find a poet who uses eyes in so many of her poems.

Isabel Scheck describes her collection of 150 love poems, Tiny Poems For Gentle Hearts, as poetry for “warming hearts and thawing souls.” Her poems are short and gentle, reflecting (as eyes do so well) the depths of her soul, the deepest feelings in her heart. But she expresses herself so well by using the eyes as important elements of her feelings, metaphors and expressions of love. Her descriptions of eyes include a number of fascinating colors. The eyes in her poetry are mint green, bloodshot, bluey-grey, twinkling brown, bluey-green, greeny-brown, chocolate brown, liquid brown, and so much more. “Your eyes are/ like pools of ink/ that slice through/ my soul.” She also uses similes to describe her eyes: “periwinkle blue/ eyes that shine as brightly/ as the moon.” And: “Her eyes were/ like emerald ashes/ and golden sugar.” Or, she simply calls them “stunning eyes”.

And then there’s the element of surprise, the substance that eyes excrete: tears. “The moon sobbed stars./ That what the stars are;/ Just the moon's tears/ flooding the night sky.” Tears which she equally eloquently describes as “pale blue tears, pastel blue tears.” Gentle poems for a gentle heart. Tiny Poems For Gentle Hearts is a little treasure.

Beauty and love are two things that every one of us would describe differently, and yet each is important to our lives. Without beauty there is little meaning in anything that we see. Without love there is little meaning in anything that we feel. And yet, they are never the same from one person to the next. Recognizing that beauty and that love, however, brings about a change in any of us and creates a love and a passion for the world around us. It is the experiences we have with one another and the love we feel for one another that make us who we are and tells us who we want to be in Tiny Poems for Gentle Hearts by Isabel Scheck.

This book is a collection of poems that are all about making us look deeper within ourselves as we read about love and the wonderful feelings and relationships around us. Each person or each thing in our world experiences love and experiences a level of devotion to others and yet it can be difficult to truly express. With this book, you can see how those expressions truly exist and what it means to showcase your feelings for others. Each poem is a description that you can picture and feel, drawing you in with their thoughts and desires. Tiny Poems for Gentle Hearts by Isabel Scheck is a great read for those who love poetry or even simply those who love love. It’s about the beauty around us, and how to paint a picture with words.

Tiny Poems For Gentle Hearts by Isabel Scheck is a poetry collection that deals primarily with themes revolving around love, romance, and heartbreak. Tiny Poems For Gentle Hearts is truly, as the title states, a “gentle” book with gently written poems. What I mean by that is the poems and the writing are delicate and the themes and images the collection evokes are not about aggression in love, but the softer feelings in love.

The book opens up and dives right into the poems pretty quickly, and the poems themselves are fairly short, ranging from a couple of lines each to maybe a page or two. They mostly deal with feelings of love, romance, heartbreak, separation in love, and sorrow but not in a passionate way; instead, it is in a softer, sadder way. The poems are also quite descriptive of features and evoke visual imagery, especially of facial features and eyes. There is a brief bio about the author at the end.

I liked reading Tiny Poems For Gentle Hearts and thought it was a refreshing change from the type of modern poetry I usually come across. Isabel writes in a pure, simple style with very few words and no long running, complex verses. Most of the poems are written in such a simple language that a young adult or child could easily read and understand them. They have an airy and ethereal quality to them at times which I especially liked and enjoyed. This is a peaceful, serene collection of poems that poetry fans would enjoy reading!

The author has very cleverly created some beautiful poetry which evokes emotions from past experiences. The author writes in such a way as to ignite every one of your senses; hair made of golden liquid, strawberry lips and tears crashing on the shore.
