Treasure in Broken Vessels: Part 1, Unconditional Love is a heart-warming story by Nicola da Silva. King Christopher has his hands full trying to rule his small country, Ribeira. His vindictive Aunt Gia, who governs neighbouring Portafina, and his womanising cousin, Stefano, are always hatching plots to overthrow him and stall trade and investment opportunities which are needed to sustain Ribeira. The only people the king trusts are his Uncle Gregory and his attractive, efficient personal assistant, Paula. Christopher creates a plan to increase revenues and jobs, which will make Ribeira less dependent on Portafina’s industry. But the frustrated king meets more obstacles, and his faith in God is tested. Scheming Stefano returns to Ribeira, and Christopher sends his cousin to a remote vineyard to avoid him. Stefano is furious and makes drastic decisions while giving serious thoughts to his future. He also finds the vintner’s wife attractive. Can King Christopher defeat his enemies who have spies watching him?
Nicola da Silva’s easy writing style made me feel the bittersweet emotions that likable King Christopher experienced, as well as those of the other characters. The story has a light touch of romance and religion, but the author didn’t force her religious beliefs into the plot. It has good characters and clever, engaging dialogue. I thought the conclusion ended the book rather abruptly, but the overall content was a pleasant, inspiring story. Having read this, I feel the sequel to Treasure in Broken Vessels: Part 1, Unconditional Love will also be an enjoyable one.
