Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Sea Star by Kathleen Welton is an encouraging and motivational picture book for young children that teaches them about courage and helping others in need. Myrtle the turtle and her friend Max come across sea stars (starfish) washed ashore after a storm. When Max and Myrtle find the sea stars stuck in the kelp, they decide to use their magic to help them out. Myrtle waves her wand and rallies the forces of seagulls, owls, otters, ducks, and dolphins to help them out. They bring a carpet from the sky, haul the sea stars over Myrtle’s back, and take them back to the sea. With each other’s help and effort, the sea stars are saved and returned to their home, happy, safe, and sound.
Kathleen Welton crafts a simple yet impactful story that will resonate with young readers. The vibrant illustrations and engaging narrative effectively convey the message of helping others in need. The diverse cast of animal characters, from seagulls to dolphins, reinforces the idea of unity and cooperation. The book's gentle tone and positive message make it an ideal read-aloud for parents and educators. Chau Pham's breathtaking images will definitely be enjoyed by children and parents alike. While children will find the illustrations captivating, parents will find them entertaining as well. I loved the simplicity of the story and how easily the message was conveyed. Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Sea Star is a delightful and educational story that encourages empathy and highlights the positive outcomes of working together. Highly recommended!
