Uncanny Valley (Artificial Intelligence) by Dennis Verneu is a science fiction story that would appeal to young adults and adults who enjoy futuristic sci-fi tales and artificial intelligence. The future is a world where big tech companies hold power, so much so that the line between business and government has become clouded. This future is filled with corruption, disaster, and a scarcity of resources. Rob and Lisa meet for the first time in the future when they are detained in a police truck. Lisa is only there for a misdemeanor, but Rob does not remember how or why he is being detained. The situation quickly spirals when the truck is rammed, and the robot police agents are destroyed. Who is Rob? Is he a victim in need of Lisa’s help, or is he something much worse?

Uncanny Valley by Dennis Verneu is a well-written book with an attention-grabbing cover. I have to say I have always been a huge fan of futuristic sci-fi themes, like iRobot, but this book surpassed such movies and books by a large margin. I loved how the author kept me on the edge of my seat, wondering what would happen next and how things would turn out for Rob and Lisa. While I liked both characters, Lisa became my favorite with her willingness to help Rob even though she suspects he is the reason the police truck was attacked. It was easy to get wrapped up in her character and feel a need to see how things would turn out for her. Overall, I loved this book, and I hope the author decides to continue to write in this genre, as he has a talent for it.
