In 1492, a mysterious crate was one of the reasons the ship Ay Papi met its demise in the sea, other than a mistake by a crew member. Fast forward to present day, Alex Tate and Sean Rylan run Atlantic Treasures Unlimited together, treasure hunting and diving expeditions out of Boot Key Harbor in Marathon, Florida. Business is slow, and the bank is breathing down their necks. Their hope is renewed when they received a call from Professor Kirby James, who represents an unknown client to hire the team and explore a newly discovered wreck in northeast of Nassau, Bahamas in dangerous conditions. An expedition that is both a life-saver and a risky one, Unearthly Power is a gripping adventure tale by R.K. Sidler.

I finished Unearthly Power more or less overnight. It is an absorbing read, and the credit for that is due to R.K. Sidler's accomplished storytelling skills other than the fascinating story. It also scores high marks in its depiction of the diving and action scenes. As the team gets deeper into their expedition, so too are readers, drawn to the mysterious artifacts and secret sects that are involved.

As we follow their dangerous adventure, we encounter a parade of interesting characters, most of whom it’s easy to like, and some easy to loathe; though most of the time I was somewhat annoyed with Sean’s satirical nature. The supernatural element is a perfect windfall. A well-told adventure story with depth and well-realized characters readers will appreciate.
