Romance, humor, sweetness and fun only begin to describe Venetian Tangle: A Christmas Romance. Lorena is single and happy until one night she is visited by her old boyfriend, Guido, the boyfriend she hasn’t seen in ten years; by his ghost, that is. As she sits at home a few days before Christmas, she suddenly smells his cologne and feels his presence. Lorena has no idea why, after all these years except for a few birthday cards, this would be happening. When she sends him an email and receives no response, she checks on the internet and quickly learns that he has died. The visit weighs heavily on Lorena as she tries to figure out why Guido’s ghost would have come to her. Lorena soon decides that since she has a few days off for the Christmas holiday, she will travel from her home in Hamburg back to Venice where the romance took place. Since Guido and his family owned a hotel, she knows exactly where she will be staying and sets off on her journey. Lorena is quickly spotted by Guido’s brother, Enzo, and from there the story really begins. Lorena does not expect the welcome she receives and is soon caught up in the drama and mystery of Guido’s family and friends. As Lorena tries to find an answer to what Guido’s ghost was trying to tell her, she finds that her life is about to change in so many ways. You will have to read the often funny, but mostly sweet and loving story for yourself to find out all of the details because I don’t want to spoil any of it.
It certainly does not have to be Christmas to read and enjoy Venetian Tangle. I just finished reading it on a warm Spring day in my sun room and it was perfect. Beate Boeker made Venice come alive and it is impossible not to fall in love with Lorena and Enzo. Venetian Tangle would be the perfect TV movie and I can only hope to be watching it this Christmas season. If you like a good romantic story minus the sex and bad words, then you must read Venetian Tangle; you will not be disappointed. Beate Boeker certainly knows how to reach the heart of the romantic reader and provide real life characters that will quickly become your friends. Venetian Tangle is a warm, uplifting, and touching story.
