Author Biography

Hi! I’m A. R. Alexander, an Italian-born writer living in the south of England with my husband, three children, and a dog who’s far too convinced he runs the house. Before becoming an author, I worked for years as a psychologist.

I write in both Italian and English, and my stories often mix adventure, mythology, and a hint of sci-fi. I’ve lived with dyslexia and ADHD since I was a child. It hasn’t always been easy—I’ve had to work harder than most—but it’s also shaped the way I see the world and the way I write. Many of my characters carry a bit of that journey with them.

My second novel, Vibrations – Children of Atlantis, is out now, and I’m currently writing the sequel. I’m also working on a completely different project with my dear friend and translator, Sandra Ortu: we’re bringing back to life the voices of brilliant Italian women writers who’ve been forgotten over time.

I’ve always been a passionate reader. While I now love YA fiction, I grew up on Terry Brooks, Asimov, Hesse, Goethe, Orwell, and Bradbury. Those early stories sparked my love for imagination and deep questions—and that love has only grown since.

A.R. Alexander brings us an engaging blend of mythology and fairy tales in Vibrations: Children of Atlantis. Nada has a rare gift. She can see the vibrations of everything around her. Bright waves of energy have always been bouncing around her. She has kept her head down, hiding her gift from the world. And then Kani comes into the picture. Arriving in Texas from Hawaii, Kani can feel vibrations and manipulate them, and he is very curious about Nada. Meeting Kani could shatter Nada’s peace in her chaotic world. Together, Nada and Kani learn about their Atlantean heritage and how to harness their newfound skills. A battle of the elements against mythological creatures they have only heard of in story books is very close at hand. If they lose, it could mean the end of the world. Will they be ready in time?

Author A.R. Alexander has done a remarkable job of infusing this story with boundless sensory stimulation. Writing in the first-person narrative from the perspectives of our two protagonists was a strategic move that was executed with perfection. Character descriptions are detailed, which makes the characters likable and relatable. A resounding theme of misplaced self-doubt and finding your place in this world saturates every page. This book is filled with action based on a new set of rules, which makes for phenomenal world-building. I loved the introduction of various mythical creatures from different religions and mythologies. Suitable for young adult readers, Vibrations is a fast-paced adventure that will fill you with hope and large doses of self-confidence.

In A. R. Alexander's Vibrations, sixteen-year-old Nada has never felt like an ordinary girl. Born deaf, she communicates with others through her ability to sense and control sound waves. Her skill is a gift in the right hands, but it is also deemed a threat by mysterious, sinister forces. Her aunt is committed to protecting her, regardless of the price. Nada's encounter with Kani, another sixteen-year-old, changes everything she thought she understood about her life. Kani was born with the ability to sense and manipulate vibrations around him. When unknown forces begin to attack the teens, they discover they are linked to the legendary city of Atlantis. Without warning, they are thrust into a primordial war that threatens the very lives of the people they care about. To survive this quest, Nada and Kani must confront many dangerous ordeals ahead of them.

Vibrations: Children of Atlantis by A. R. Alexander is an engaging YA adventure that blends an intriguing coming-of-age journey with supernatural abilities and the fascinating mysteries of an ancient race. The plot is both thought-provoking and adventurous. I was completely captivated by the series of events that unfolded the moment Nada's and Kani's fated paths crossed. I was impressed by how they gradually unraveled the secrets tied to Atlantis and their roles in the story. The author does a sublime job of remodeling the Atlantis myth and the story's essential characters to fit the overall storyline. Fans of Greek mythology will be pleased! The novel is creatively recounted in the first person through the interchanging POVs of Kani and Nada, thus giving readers a clear sense of each character's unique perspective. Readers who love adventure stories that cover self-discovery and family expectations with a trace of supernatural elements will unquestionably enjoy this read.

Nada was born deaf but can mysteriously see sound waves and mimic their patterns. Kani, on the other hand, can sense vibrations in the form of energy and manipulate them at will. Their unique powers draw them together and unite them in a society where they don't quite fully fit in. All at once, Nada and Kani find themselves at the center of unknown attacks. These events force them to delve deeper into a hidden, magical world filled with surprising secrets. Nada and Kani eventually discover that they're the descendants of powerful Atlanteans, inhabitants of the lost city of Atlantis. As they battle beings that jeopardize their existence, they must also protect their loved ones, vanquish their doubts, and accept their true destinies.

Vibrations: Children of Atlantis by A. R. Alexander is an adventurous and refreshing take on the legend of Atlantis. It is a riveting YA fantasy that will impress fans of the genre. Alexander flawlessly brings the lost civilization of Atlantis to life through the exciting experiences of two identifiable and realistically depicted teens. What impressed me the most was Nada and Kani's journey of self-discovery, courage, and friendship. They are not simply two young heroes from an ancient civilization living in the modern world—they are two multifaceted teenagers wrestling with their own anxieties, insecurities, and tough choices while slowly learning to rely on their friendship and themselves. This book is ideal for readers who relish novels on mythology and relatable characters. If you are captivated by books like The Kane Chronicles and the Magnus Chase series, rest assured, you will love this YA tale as well.
