Violet the Hugging Octopus by Sherry Duquet (illustrated by Mark Wayne Adams) is a wonderful story. The pages are heartwarming and bright. There is so much color and creativity in every detail of Violet, her friends, and their environment; it's impossible not to get lost in it all. Any child would adore the illustrations. Sherry does a great job at keeping the rhymes and the flow of the story easy and smooth. There's not too much text, simple enough to keep the attention span, and the message throughout is very important not only to the children listening but to the adults reading the story aloud.
