Violet the Hugging Octopus by Sherry Duquet (illustrated by Mark Wayne Adams) is a wonderful story. The pages are heartwarming and bright. There is so much color and creativity in every detail of Violet, her friends, and their environment; it's impossible not to get lost in it all. Any child would adore the illustrations. Sherry does a great job at keeping the rhymes and the flow of the story easy and smooth. There's not too much text, simple enough to keep the attention span, and the message throughout is very important not only to the children listening but to the adults reading the story aloud. This is a must for any child's bookshelf. Violet the Hugging Octopus is beautifully illustrated and written and tackles a lesson not always easy to handle. A great read for any age and a daily reminder that we are all perfectly perfect by just being ourselves.
