Young, old, big, and small, there will always be times when we're unsure of certain things that cause us to fear and to doubt ourselves. In this beautifully illustrated children's adventure book, Voyage To Bravery by Jeremiah Shelton, children will embark on a wonderful journey with Sam. Sam has a strong desire to be a normal kid and not have to either stay in the hospital so much or be confined to his room when he's at home. What Sam doesn't realize is actually how special he is. One day upon his return home from the hospital, his doubts were challenged and then changed when he met Goodwin the Giant, Jamie and Earl, and sisters K-Harp and Sarge. They provided Sam with magical gifts. Sam later realizes that he's so special only he can save the Queen and the Land of Aurora. Will Sam have enough faith in himself of how special he really is and use the magical gifts to save the Queen and the Land of Aurora in time?
Voyage To Bravery by Jeremiah Shelton is such a blessing, especially for those children struggling with a disease or illness. Through this book, they are able to discover that just like Sam was given the choice, they too can choose how they see themselves and what narrative they wish for others to know and see about them. I found this book so special in many ways but one that truly resonated with me was the message that the author reflected; the benefits of the magical gifts for not only Sam but for the reader.
