Melinda Deir-Boyette has authored an interesting book in Wake Up Sleeping Church! The title is intriguing. I agree that the modern church is asleep at the wheel and needs to be awakened. However, as you read this book, you may agree or disagree with Melinda’s conclusions and the verses she uses to prove her argument. Many preachers lead their members into following them by reminding them that God says to obey those who have rule over them. Melinda believes this means Christians are brainwashed. One statement she makes is that it was not God who killed Ananias and Sapharria, but fear killed them. Melinda also says that Jesus did not endorse tithing. She delivers her message as she understands the Bible. Reading this volume will encourage you to think. Please read it with an open mind.
Christians may dismiss Wake Up Sleeping Church! after reading the first few pages. Melinda Deir-Boyette speaks of having visions. She presents her beliefs in a way that is easy to read and understand. Melinda is not afraid of disagreeing with many well-known and well-intentioned Christian leaders. She seems to flow between the physical and spiritual worlds effortlessly. Melinda even calls Peter out as a spiritual leader blinded to the truth and who had to repent. She relates more than one story about Peter to make her point. As you read, be sure to maintain an open outlook. Enjoy what she has to say and take the truth you find in her statements. This book is a short read and will challenge your thinking. In what ways do you feel the church is sleeping and needs to wake up?
