Wally is a whale. He's on an adventure, migrating north to the colder waters around Alaska. But first he must help out a large cargo ship that is threatened by a huge tidal wave. Wally frequently helps ships in trouble at sea. He doesn't let people know that he helps. He doesn't want to be lauded or awarded. He just wants to help. Wally has human friends on Camano Island in the State of Washington. The human friends are children. How they became friends is not made clear in the story, but from the dialogue between the children and Wally, it appears that they have known each other since both the children and Wally were younger.

Wally is injured by a ferry boat as he approaches Camano Island. Octopuses and jellyfish help Wally's tail to heal. When Wally goes searching for the children, his human friends, he finds them on the same ferry boat that had cut his tail. The ferry boat is stuck on a sandbar and needs help to get off the sandbar. While Wally is helping, the children recognize their friend, Wally. The children orchestrate the captain and his crew to work with Wally and Wally's sea-friends in the water to release the ferry. Will they succeed?

Stephen George has written a good story for young people that emphasizes the importance of working together and helping others. This is also an educational story about creatures of the ocean. The book still needs some formatting and editing, but otherwise, it is a good read.
