Barry Libman has written an autobiography of how he made decisions for his family and himself that impacted his environment and others. In What a Ride! How I helped Change My Little Corner Of The World And Loved Every Minute Of It And You Can Too!, Libman tells readers of a modest beginning in which he worked in the family business and eventually took it over in partnership with his brother. Through expansion, wise choices and timely good luck, the Libmans were able to grow their company to a multi-million dollar service. But, at the heart of Libman's value system was the urge to help those less fortunate. His natural family was to be limited due to an Rh negative factor, so the Libmans elected to expand their family via international adoptions. Various foundations were set up to help disadvantaged people, both in the United States and in Mexico. The Mexican heritage of Libman's wife, Carmen, was a lovely chapter which attests to the survival values of the family.

While I found What a Ride interesting, I would like to have known a bit more about the underlying family dynamics as well as the business acumen that led to the eventual setting up of foundations. There is substantial detail about the extended family which sometimes distracted from the flow of the story. But, in general, this is a lovely story of a dynamic man and wife who were not content simply to offer a better life to their children; they also sought the means for enhancing the lives of others.
