What Are Bees Good For, Anyway? is a children's picture book written by award-winning author Nicole Frankel and expertly illustrated by Firman Putra Irawan. Bennie hates bees and wonders what they are good for. This happens after he has been stung by a bee and after he finds a beehive in the tree he likes to climb but is now unable to. To make matters worse, his brother Lennie is allergic to bees and swelled up like a pufferfish after being stung by one at space camp. However, honey on toast is Bennie's favorite snack, and Bennie's Aunt Beatrice, who is a beekeeper, always brings them honey. Aunt Beatrice explains to Bennie that honey comes from honeybees and that they have to work very hard to produce it. Aunt Beatrice teaches him all about honeybees, and Bennie learns to appreciate their extra-special role in our ecosystem.

What Are Bees Good For, Anyway? is a fun book for children that is endearing and entertaining yet also very thought-provoking and educational. I am sure that it will not only pique children's interest but their parents' as well. Many of the facts that Bennie's Aunt Beatrice shares with him about honeybees are not only educational for children but would be to the majority of parents as well. The illustrations by Firman Putra Irawan are eye-catching, and they portray the emotions of the characters very well. Nicole Frankel's writing is simple and straightforward yet also clever, using words such as “unBEElievable” and naming Bennie's beekeeper aunt, Beatrice. What Are Bees Good For, Anyway? is an ultra-professional, delightful, and informative book that has a ton of interesting facts about bees.
