Wanda Hernandez’s latest story is What Can I Do?!? Speak Encouraging Words. Little Danielle Duckling lives on a farm. She notices that everyone seems to have something special they can do but she doesn’t think there is anything special that she can do. She goes to see Matthew Owl, who tells her everyone is good at something and leads her around the farm. They see Farmer John who is having a difficult time with Granny Cow. Danielle suggests that he speak softly and kindly to her. Farmer John tries it, and it works! They visit a couple more friends and each time Danielle finds the right words to say. When she returns home, Danielle tells her mother she still doesn’t know what makes her special. Her mother tells her that her gift is being able to say the right things at the right time.
What Can I Do?!? Speak Encouraging Words will be a great resource for Sunday School teachers and parents. Wanda Hernandez has written a beautiful story that kids will enjoy listening to. She has also incorporated Bible passages from Proverbs on each page that reinforce the story. Hernandez’s illustrations are bright, colorful, and kid-friendly. I love Danielle’s little ponytail and Matthew Owl’s big glasses. The book highlights the fact that sometimes we don’t realize how the little things we say can make a huge difference in someone’s day. What Can I Do?!? Speak Encouraging Words will be an excellent book to share with all the young children in your life.
