In his book, When Lies Become Virtues, Robert John Popoff writes for Christians who believe that Scripture has God’s authority when popular opinion treats biblical teachings as outdated. He uses Revelation, the final book of the Bible, to explain how deception changes the names people give to the right living. Jesus Christ, called the Lamb in Revelation, stands above every earthly claim because His resurrection defeats Satan’s accusation against humanity. Popoff’s message is that public approval does not turn a lie into truth. The book calls readers to test popular claims by Scripture before those claims replace obedience to God, then to live as if Christ already reigns over history in every age and place.
Robert John Popoff’s When Lies Become Virtues is perfectly timed, and the author addresses a daily issue: people often hear the same public act called kind by one speaker and wrong by another. He asks who gets to define goodness. The book’s freshest ideas come from Popoff’s treatment of secularism as a belief system with its own claims about truth. He also says words such as human dignity can survive in public speech after people stop explaining why every person has worth. The writing is easy to understand, even for a reader like myself who isn't as Bible-savvy as my mother. I like that it explains scripture in plain language. In Daniel 2, King Nebuchadnezzar dreams of a statue. Popoff explains that the statue stands for human empires, while the stone that breaks it stands for God’s rule through Jesus, which I found really fascinating. Well explained and engrossing, this is an excellent read. Very highly recommended.
